No meals included

This morning we meet our friendly Wanderlust crew and our fellow adventurers before a day of exploring Broome. Its rich and colourful history began with the mass migration of Japanese, Filipino and Malay pearl divers seeking their fortune. This created a melting pot of cultures that make Broome the multicultural town that it is today.

This morning we see the highlights of Broome including Gantheaume Point, the Japanese Cemetery and Chinatown. We’ll also visit Pearl Luggers to uncover the history of pearling, explore fascinating memorabilia and hear firsthand experiences from divers.

Have your camera ready as late afternoon we drive to famous Cable Beach to watch one of the most magical sunsets you are ever likely to experience in your life before dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today we have a free day in Broome.

We can take our pick from pristine beaches to camel rides and incredible food experiences.

Two of our favourite things to do in Broome are to visit the Willie Creek Pearl Farm or fly over the majestic Horizontal Waterfalls.

Let the crew know if you are interested in these options and they will help you make arrangements.

Meals: Breakfast

Today we travel through some of the more sparsely populated and remote areas of Australia as we skirt the Great Sandy Desert to the east and Eighty Mile Beach to the west. Here we’ll get a true appreciation of the expanse of WA’s wilderness.

We have brought along our picnic lunches which we will have at a local spot before deviating from the highway to view the spectacularly long Eighty Mile Beach with white sand and crystal-clear waters.

From here we travel to Pardoo Roadhouse, a classic Aussie roadhouse in the middle of nowhere for an afternoon stop before arriving in Port Hedland – a town with rich shipping and mining culture, for our overnight accommodation.

Hospitality Port Hedland | 08 9173 1044

Breakfast and dinner at motel | packed lunch included

Welcome to the Pilbara. We discover Port Hedland with a local guide, uncovering the rich indigenous culture and pioneering history of this unusual town.

The town is the gateway and central hub connecting the Pilbara and the Kimberley regions. Pick a place for our delicious lunch overlooking the water before an afternoon journey to the growing and thriving town of Karratha.

Ibis Styles Karratha | 08 9159 1000

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

In nearby Dampier, we visit the impressive North West Shelf Visitor Centre. The centre overlooks the Karratha Gas Plant, one of the largest oil and gas producers in the world. Marvel at the sheer size and magnitude of this site.

Spend time wandering the centre, viewing models of the platforms and interesting displays or sit down and enjoy the award-winning film conveying the story of the gas project and development.

The rest of the day is a travel day as we pass Giralia Station – a large and isolated farm which runs approximately 25,000 sheep before arriving in beautiful Coral Bay.

Ningaloo Reef Resort, Coral Bay | 08 9942 5934

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We are in for a treat as we join our coral viewing vessel for a cruise around the UNESCO World Heritage listed area Ningaloo Marine Park with its remarkable reef. We might even be lucky enough to spot one of the reef’s magnificent whale sharks.

Although the Ningaloo Reef is not as well-known as the Great Barrier Reef, it is just as spectacular.

See the unique marine life through the tranquil waters and feel the white sand beneath our feet. Back on dry land, we leave the North West Cape and travel to Carnarvon.

Hospitality Carnarvon | 08 9941 1600

Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Regional Australia is full of surprises! At the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, the centre celebrates the little-known history of the role Carnarvon played in the space race. The station was built to support NASA’s Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs.

Australia is full of strange and awe-inspiring topographical wonders and today we will see one of its true mysteries. We stop at Hamelin Pool to see a colony of Stromatolites (fossil micro-organisms) that date back to the beginning of life on earth.

We enjoy lunch at the Telegraph Station before making our way through Denham and Shell Beach. Surrounded by rusty red dunes, white sandy beaches and water teeming with wildlife is Monkey Mia, our home for the night.

Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort | 08 9948 1320

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Getting up close and personal with the dolphins at Monkey Mia is on many Australian’s bucket lists.

With any luck, today we’ll experience Monkey Mia’s well-known wild dolphin encounter. The friendly pod of bottlenose dolphins regularly swim to the shallows and interact with humans for a wonderful wildlife experience.

We travel to Kalbarri and stop at Red Bluff Lookout for views of the coastline and over the township before checking into our accommodation.

2 nights l The Edge Resort Kalbarri | 08 9937 0000

Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Today is another day where we will get a sense of just how diverse our landscape in Australia is. Have your camera at the ready as we will discover the spectacular Kalbarri National Park, featuring rocky sandstone cliffs, ancient rock formations, inland river gorges and where the Murchison River meets the Indian Ocean.

We leisurely walk down the picturesque trail to Natures Window. The rock formation perfectly frames the rugged upstream view of the Murchison River giving incredible views.

Next, we enjoy the breathtaking skywalk that takes us out over the cliff face to stand above the precipice drop into the valley below. It provides a stunning vistas of the rust red cliffs, flowing water and bushland from high above.

Our afternoon is at leisure. Enjoy the tranquillity of the Murchison River onboard Kalbarri Wilderness Sunset Cruise to finish off the day. For dinner, we recommend Upstairs Restaurant or Pelican’s Café and Restaurant for a bite to eat.

Meal: Breakfast

Our journey takes us through Geraldton, Australia’s rock lobster capital, where we take in the local sights including the port area, St Francis Xavier Cathedral and the HMAS Sydney Memorial.

The magnificent memorial has become the country’s premier site for honouring the 645 Australian sailors who were lost of the West Australian coast during a World War II battle.

We continue south to the town of Cervantes. This spectacular seaside town is the access point to the truly remarkable Nambung National Park, where the incredible Pinnacles, rise out of the yellow sand dunes. The limestone pillars, standing two metres tall, are one of the states foremost natural wonders and attract visitors from around the world.

Cervantes Pinnacles Motel | 08 9652 7145

Meals: Breakfast and dinner

We make our way to New Norcia; a historical and spiritual treasure and the only monastic town in the country. You won’t believe what lies behind the locked doors of their buildings!

We join a town tour and let our experienced guide unravel the unique history before a visit to the amazing Museum and Art Gallery. There is an eclectic array of Mission and Monastery memorabilia on display alongside European religious art and contemporary Australian art works.

The monks also make their own wine, ale, condiments, bread, Italian sweet treats and olive oil amongst other products. Be sure to stock up bar and pantry and they make great gifts too!

We also enjoy lunch made from locally sourced produce at New Norcia Hotel, which began its life in 1927 as a guest house for parents visiting children in the schools nearby. This grand neo-classical style building will take your breath away. It has swooping verandas and balconies to sit and soak up the peace and tranquillity.

We continue to Western Australia’s capital, Perth, our home for the next two nights.

2 nights l Pan Pacific Perth | 08 9224 7777

Meals: Breakfast and lunch

We embark on a sightseeing tour of Perth, the city with wonderful weather, beautiful beaches and an easy-going character. Our local expert will guide us through the unusual combination of skyscrapers and colonial architecture before we are treated with spectacular views over the city and river from Kings Park.

We travel to the historic port of Fremantle for free time. ‘Freo’ is full of well-preserved heritage including the convict built colonial era buildings, the old jetty and the prison.

The streets buzz with songs of buskers, the footpaths are filled with collections of art and trendy cafes and bars are full to the brim. Try Kailis Fish Market Café, Miami Bakehouse or Little Creatures for lunch.

We return to Perth from a fantastic day exploring.

Meals: Breakfast and dinner

After breakfast say goodbye to Western Australia as you use your taxi voucher to ‘self-transfer’ to Perth Airport.

You arrive home from an incredible adventure feeling elated and privileged to have travelled to one of the most diverse and beautiful wilderness regions in the world.
